Mangetsu, translated as Full Moon, is highly ranked in the Meikan chart by the Japanese Fukiran Society. It is considered as the second best variety with yellow marginal variegation, next to Fuukiden. Both varieties are well known for their wide and consistent cream-yellow marginal variegation with strong contrasts, however the leaves of Mangetsu are more curly than Fuukiden. All plants of Mangetsu are passed down from true divisions of the original plant. This leaf variegation would never change from beginning to last until matured. In the first year, new growth starts all yellow with no chlorophyll, green center line appears in the second year and it takes 5-6 years to complete this variegation change. The flowers are white in colour, around 3-4 cm in size and have a strong jasmine-like fragrance.
